  18.                            WHAT IS NOTEWARE?   
  19.                       
  20.         NoteWare is the ultimate DOS notepad.  It is a memory resident
  21.         program:  pop it up anytime just by pressing two keys.  After 
  22.         you pop it up, you can choose to either write a new note or 
  23.         see the ones you've already written.  You'll never lose your 
  24.         notes -- they are automatically saved on disk.  NoteWare is 
  25.         simple enough that you should be up and running in just a few 
  26.         minutes.

  28.         NoteWare's powerful features enable you to:
  29.         --  Write as many screen-size notes as you wish.
  30.         --  Cut, copy, and paste any block of text.
  31.         --  Search through the notes for a string of text.
  32.         --  Export a block of text from a note to a word processor.
  33.         --  Grab anything on your PC's screen.  Import it into a note
  34.             or save it as an ASCII file.
  35.         --  View any ASCII file on your disk, scroll through it, or 
  36.             search for a string of text within it.  Export a block of 
  37.             text from the file directly into your word processor, or 
  38.             import it into a note. 
  39.         --  Select notes from a menu.
  40.         --  Save notes as ASCII files.
  41.         --  Print notes using the PRINTNW program.
  42.         --  Choose the hotkey combination that works best for you.
  43.                 
  44.         NoteWare should not interfere with other programs, as it uses 
  45.         only 16K and can be loaded into high memory.

  57.                       UPGRADING FROM NOTEWARE 1.X
  58.         
  59.         Follow the instructions in the UPGRADE.DOC file if you have
  60.         NoteWare 1.x.

  63.                         AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION   
  64.         
  65.         Automatic installation will create a directory on your hard 
  66.         disk and copy its files to that directory.  It will
  67.         optionally load NoteWare each time you boot.
  68.                         
  69.         Put the NoteWare disk into drive A:.  Type A: <Enter> at the 
  70.         DOS prompt.  Then type INSTALL<Enter> and answer the two 
  71.         questions asked by the Installation Program.

  74.                       DO-IT-YOURSELF INSTALLATION   
  75.                                                    
  76.         If you prefer to install NoteWare yourself, create a new 
  77.         directory and copy NoteWare's files into it.  Be sure to 
  78.         add the directory to the DOS search path.  
  79.         
  80.         For instance, if you create a directory named C:\NOTE, type 
  81.         the following command:  COPY A:\*.* C:\NOTE 
  82.  
  83.         (This assumes your floppy disk is in drive A:.  Use B: if 
  84.         appropriate.)

  86.                                 STARTUP   
  87.                                         
  88.         At the C: prompt, type NoteWare and press the <Enter> key.  
  89.         You will see the following message:

  97.         This message indicates NoteWare has been successfully 
  98.         loaded into memory.  When you want to activate NoteWare, 
  99.         hold down the Alt key and press the spacebar.  NoteWare's 
  100.         Welcome Screen will greet you.  Please read the Welcome 
  101.         Screen, then start using NoteWare.

  103.         If you don't want NoteWare to occupy conventional memory, read 
  104.         the "ADVANCED STARTUP" in the MANUAL.DOC file.

  112.         To print NoteWare's 16-page manual, type the following at the 
  113.         DOS prompt:  COPY MANUAL.DOC PRN

  116.                           UNLOADING NOTEWARE   
  117.                                      
  118.         To unload NoteWare, type NOTEWARE /U at the DOS prompt.  
  119.         Before you unload it, be sure that NoteWare is the last memory 
  120.         resident program loaded. 
  121.         
  122.         You do not need to unload NoteWare each time you turn off your 
  123.         computer.  This option is provided for a variety of reasons:  
  124.         you may want to defragment your hard disk (see "A Few No-No's, 
  125.         page 14 of the manual), use the memory occupied by NoteWare, etc.

  127.                          HOW TO PRINT THIS FILE 
  128.        
  129.         Type the following at the DOS prompt:  COPY README.1ST PRN

  134.         NoteWare is a copyrighted shareware program.  You may use it 
  135.         during a 21-day trial period without obligation.  If you use 
  136.         NoteWare after the trial period, you must register by sending
  137.         $25 to Integrated Consulting, P.O. Box 1613, San Juan 
  138.         Capistrano, California  92693.

  140.         Registered users will receive: 
  141.         --  the most recent version of NoteWare 
  142.         --  a printed manual

  148.         To print an order form:  change to the directory where you 
  149.         installed NoteWare, then type REGISTER at the DOS prompt.
